Camarillo Smart & Final – New Business Hours

Smart & Final at Camarillo is now Smart & Final extra!  They have a new sign up.

The interior looks better and employees are still nice.  The main difference is their business hours.  Camarillo Smart & Final (extra) now opens till 10pm (9pm on Sundays).

Smart & Final at Camarillo used to close at 7pm (6pm on Sunday).  Their old business hours was ridiculous.   I think most people with normal jobs never had a chance to shop there, because they closed so early.   Last year, I visited their website and complained about their early hours.  They replied and basically said “I’m sorry, but we close early.”   I was impressed that a live person actually wrote me back.  A lot of businesses create their websites but they ignore emails from the visitors.  Smart and final actually emailed me back.

Anyway, they finally got smart and extended business hours.

10pm still seems early, but it’s not bad for Camarillo.  People don’t come out that late in Camarillo.

Camarillo Smart & Final – Old Sign, before “extra”

Before Smart & Final, there was Tresierras.
Before Tresierras there was El Brillante.
Before El Brillante, there was Apple Market
I don’t know what they had before

Tony’s New York Pizza, Camarillo – Best in Ventura County

I am not a food critique.   I’m just a web designer who appreciate good pizza (cheap).   This blog is just my personal opinion.

I think Tony’s New York Pizza has the best pizza in Ventura County.  My coworkers also say Tony’s is the best in Ventura County.   I often visit Tony’s New York Pizza in Old Town Camarillo for lunch and dinner.  They are located on Lewis Road at Ventura Boulevard, right across Camarillo railroad station.  Their great food, cheap menu, and free WiFi make this one of my favorite restaurants in Ventura County.

Tony’s New York Pizza is not a fancy place.  You should make sure to dress down to eat here.   I don’t think it’s a good place to bring kids.  It doesn’t have a romantic setup.  The dinning room only has several tables.  It may hold about 30-40 people max.

But, if you and your family want to sit down and have a good meal?  Tony’s New York Pizza is the place for you.   This is where you come to enjoy good meal and chat with your friends and family.  And top off your drink before you leave.

Tony's New York Pizza (Camarillo) Anti-salad

Today I visited Tony’s New York Pizza with my friend, and ordered;

  • Small anti-salad with blue cheese (picture above)
    • This is the salad with ham and salami.
  • 1 slice of pizza topped with sausage, pepperoni, and fresh basil. (picture below)
    • Their 1 slice is actually 2 big slices.
  • baked rigatoni with cheese, meatball, & sausage.
    • It comes with 2 big garlic breads.
  • 2 small drinks

Total for entire meal was little less than $20.00.  I say their price is comparable to fast food places.   But, here, you get real food prepared by real cook.  Quality of food is excellent.  Two of us ate until we couldn’t eat  any more.  I used their free WiFi to check up on my web design projects and my clients websites.

I took a few quick pictures with my pocket camera.   I hope these pictures will get your juice flowing.

Best Pizza in Ventura County

There is a main cook who always works there in the kitchen.   He looks like Fonzie from Happy Days (cool dude).  I saw him today also, working hard as always.  He occasionally came out to ask how everyone was doing, if we were enjoying the meal.   I asked him “Excuse me, are you Tony?”  “Yes” he replied with smile.

To me, Tony’s New York Pizza is guaranteed good meal, and good time.

Tony’s New York Pizza doesn’t really have a website.  But their official menu is located here

Ribbon Cutting & Free Tacos at Dizdar Park

I work across the street from Dizdar Park.   Camarillo Chamber of Commerce is located at Dizdar Park.

Today, around 4pm, I saw a group of people getting ready for some kind of small party (event) at Dizdar park.   They were putting up a small canopy and their company logo.   Folding chairs and tables were being placed.  I went back to my desk  to finish off my Internet marketing project, then I went out again to check out the progress.  This time, I saw a taco truck pulling over.

“Free tacos!” I whispered to myself.

2 coworkers and I walked across the street to see what it was about.  We learned that AirWorks Heating & Cooling Solutions is getting ready for a ribbon cutting ceremony.  AirWorks Solutions provides heating & cooling services in Ventura County and San Fernando Valley.  Of course, they belong to Camarillo chamber of Commerce.

I chatted with the owner a little.  I really wanted to talk about what our internet marketing services can do for their business.   But, it was not the right time for that.  :(   So we came back to work.

My coworkers are shy.  They wanted some free tacos but they wouldn’t go by themselves.  “If you go, then I will go with you,” one of my coworker said.  So, I had to take the leader role and go for the first plate of tacos.   Tacos were very good.  I put extra onion, just the way I like it (It’s OK, I live alone).

We stayed at the park for speeches and ribbon cutting ceremony.  I took some pictures of the event with my pocket camera.  There was an official photographer there.  I hope I didn’t bother her.  We couldn’t hang around for cake and wine. We had work to do.

SOHO Prospecting:  2007 – new building ceremony

This reminded me of our own ribbon cutting ceremony 4 years ago.  Our ceremony was to celebrate the new building.   We’ve been in business much more than 4 hours.   Before moving to Old Town Camarillo, we were at old location (also in Camarillo) for about 5 years.  At that ribbon cutting ceremony (2007), I was the official photographer.  Camarillo Acorn came to do a story as well.  I think we have that news clip saved somewhere.

I wish AirWorks Heating and Cooling Solutions best of luck.
Free tacos made my day.  Thank you, Thank you.

Enjoying June Gloom In Camarillo, But…

I love May Gray and June Gloom weather in Camarillo.

I moved to Camarillo 12 years ago because of the good weather.  Well, there was a girl involved, but that’s another story (yikes).  Anyway, the weather in Camarillo is super fantastic.  We are having a typical June gloom weather lately.  I have to wear sweater when I go out about Camarillo at night.  It even rained several days ago.  I enjoy this weather.

But, last 3 days, I’ve been hoping for some blue sky in Camarillo.

Camarillo at Noon (June 11, 2011): 101 Freeway in front of Camarillo High School

We have a new web design customer.  We are currently designing a website for a dental office in Camarillo.  We will host website as well.  I am supposed to photograph the office building under blue Camarillo sky.  But, we haven’t have blue sky in Camarillo for a few days now.

Everyone at SOHO is making progress on this web design project.   Our graphic designer is working on concept designs to show to client.  The client will come back soon to talk about color scheme.  I will soon install Joomla CMS* program on our server.

I need to turn in some images soon.  Our graphic designer may need my image to complete her concept designs.  Good images will change mood of the website.   My photographs will mark the moment when our web design idea becomes more visual.  I would like to kick start this web design project by providing some good images to my design team.

I drove across Camarillo today at noon.  It looked extra gloomy over Camarillo High School.

I can really use some blue sky.
Besides that, I love the weather here in Camarillo.

Camarillo PETSMART Opens June 4, 2011

New PETSMART will open in Camarillo where All Pet Headquarters used to be.   I hope PetSmart will not hire groomers who smoke a lot.  Everytime I visited All Pet Headquaters in the past I saw employees smoking.   That bothered me.   Imagine poor animals who stayed with them all day.  I hope this new store will benefit all of us.

PETSMART is located right next to Right Aid (Camarillo).

On opening day, they will give away gift cards and stuff.

PS. I do not own pets.

Camarillo Farmers Market

I go to Camarillo Farmers Market* every early Saturday morning.  I get fresh fruits, vegetables, and bread.  And I always buy one lemon.  I like to put a slice of lemon in my water.

I go to Camarillo Farmers Market as early as possible, around 8am, to beat the crowd (parking lot gets full).  I wear the same shirt I wore last night in the bed.  I splash some water on my face… and I am out.   I hope I don’t meet anyone at Camarillo Farmers Market because I don’t look clean.  I haven’t brushed my teeth yet.

I often see some good looking people at Camarillo Farmers Market.  They look like they just woke up, but their hair is perfect and their sweat pants are immaculate.  And they always seem to carry coffee mugs in their hands.  You know it’s not practical to carry a coffee mug at farmers market.   I guess they enjoy looking hip and trendy.  More power to them for looking beautiful and living healthy lives.

But I think coffee mug is a little too phony.  But, it’s still cute.  I enjoy seeing them.   :)

We always have some kind of live music at Camarillo Farmers Market.  Local musicians around Camarillo & Ventura County make appearance.   I often see one-man-band with keyboard and Karaoke machine.   Sometimes I see a cowboy with a guitar singing Country songs.  I saw Camarillo High School Jazz Band once.  They were pretty good.  I try to tip them if I can.

I don’t spend too much time shopping.   I come back home in about 30 minutes.  Then I take shower and get ready for a glorious Saturday.

As I drink my favorite coffee* with my favorite mug, I check to see if there a

re any new ticket items from my web design customers.  I check to see if all my client websites were up and running all night.  I check to see if SEO reports are running OK.  I would work on some websites right away if they are high priority.  I would leave some web design projects for Monday if they are on schedule (no hurry).
